I would love to move to England from USA. How do I do this properly?

I live in Illinois and I am tired of everything. I would like to start over fresh and get away from it all. I would love to go to England. The country is beautiful and so are the women (and I love the accents). I just don't know how I can go about dropping everything here (bills, and the stuff I own) and starting my life over. I am 24 and I have some college experience. Would it be better if I finished my college degree (a few years left, and I'd rather not wait if it won't help) and get my teachers certificate? Would that make it any easier to get a job over there? Plus I have a dog that I can not get rid of, can I bring him? Thank you.

  1. I have added two of our UK govenment web pages below.

The first is a list of jobs for which work permits are highly likely to be given, due to a national shortage. There are links on the page to others where you can find a full explanation of the scheme.

The second contains a self assessment tool to see if one qualifies for entry under our highley skilled migrant programme. You will not qualify at the moment. That would not be possible without at least a batchelors degree eqivalent to that of a British University. However, you can play about with the tool, read the explanations, and enter some imaginary data to see how it works. You will probably qualify for  the scheme later, and as it has only just been introduced, it should be around for some years.Unfortunately you cannot yet have alook at an actual application form, because it will not even be available until around the end of this month. There was an earlier scheme, but this one. though slightly toughere,is more generous thatn its predecessor. Basically. our government is saying, with just one or two exceptions, in future , highly skilled will be welcome. The rest... please try elsewhere.

about teachers. The government is still saying there are shortages, but unfortunately they seem to be mostly in areas where accommodation is just too expensive for teachers, nurses, police etc. All teachers have degrees these days, and many have higher degrees. The vast majority of state school teachers are women. My next door neighbour is one of only 4 men out of over 100 teachers at the school where he teaches maths.! The government are hoping to attract more men, but I doubt they will..

  2. Getting a teacher's certificate would certainly make things easier for you.  I think they have changed the rules about quarantine, so that it is easier to bring a dog to the UK now if it has had its vaccinations.   For people outside the EU it is not easy to get a work permit, and I suspect that unemployment is going  to rise a lot in the next year or two.  A teaching qualification is a safe bet, especially if you have a scientific/mathematical qualification, or are prepared to work in unruly inner city schools.
