What degree should I pursue if I'd like to live someplace like Alaska, or simply enjoy a quiet shack in the mountains somewhere in U.S.?

I ONLY want to earn a Bachelor's degree. No graduate school.

Also, money is not an issue. I do not have expensive tastes.

It seems a little ridiculous to base my career on this, but it truly is my end goal. A relaxing shack in the middle of nowhere. Some travel might be nice, but not too much. A small city near lots and lots of nature would also work.

I imagine I would need to pursue an outdoor career of some sort.

So, what? Forestry? Environmental biology? Wildlife biology? Geology? What degree would provide me with the most job security?

  1. Just throwing out a few more ideas:

    - veterinarian

    - local tour guide / adventure tour operator

    - teacher at a local area school

    - work from home writer of some sort -- novels, magazines, etc.  (hard to break into, though)

    Good luck!
