I wouldn’t want to take over the England Job after Capello: David Beckham
England’s legendary midfielder and idol, David Beckham, has claimed that has made no plans of taking over the English manager post, following the end of contract for Fabio Capello in 2012.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star is one of the many possible successors of Fabio Capello following his announcement that he would quit the job after the Euro 2012. Beckham is considered to be a national hero for all English fans of all ages and has played for England 115 times. His contract with his current club, LA Galaxy, would also have been ended in time for Euro 2012.
In recent week, the midfielder was told by Capello that his career for the English national side till Euro 2012 was over but that all depends on his successful return from his Achilles surgery. That injury led the England star to sit out of this year’s FIFA World Cup but still managed to travel to South Africa as a part of Three Lions boss’s backroom staff. However, Beckham still doesn’t have any plans to take up the permanent job as England’s International coach.
While talking to Sky Sports news, the 35 year old joked that he would bet his money on him taking over the England job. The player added that Capello has been around the English camp for a couple of years now and its right for him to step down by Euro 2012. Beckham claimed that it would be a dream for the Three Lions boss to step down after delivering the Euro 2012 trophy. Beckham was a proud spectator when his side won both of their Euro 2012 qualifying fixtures in flying colours. England thrashed Bulgaria 4-0 at Wembley before dismantling Switzerland 3-1 in Basel.
However, England’s victory against the Swiss was plagued by weekend newspaper’s accusations surrounding the private life of English forward Wayne Rooney. Rooney is one of those players whose form can be affected by such allegations as he came under heavy fire as to whether he would play in the Switzerland match.
Rooney, however, shrugged off the allegations and replied with the opening goal of England’s 3-1 victory. Beckham believes that his former Reds team mate would be provided with the much needed support back home in Manchester United by manager Sir Alex Ferguson. Beckham, who was a product of Manchester United’s youth academy, spent 10 successful years with the Red Devils, before transferring to Real Madrid. The player claimed that Rooney is in the right team and under the right manager that will help him get over any grievances.
"I know that from my personal experience of being at Manchester United for so many years. It is a club and a team that puts their arms around you, looks after you and supports you, so he has got that”, claimed the former Reds midfielder. Beckham added that the overall performance of the English side was phenomenal even after such allegations; as such situations do manage to hamper the overall team performance. The 35 year old added that the team overall came together, played like professionals and Rooney’s performance showed the strong personality he enjoys.
Beckham stated that all the news which travels outside the stadium shouldn’t be heeded. The team should be more focused on getting a favourable result and that is all what matters. Beckham made a total of 399 appearances for Manchester United, where he scored 87 goals in all competitions. The player was part and parcel of United’s treble winning season in 98/99, which is still considered as the best season for any English side. Beckham’s two corners led to United scoring in the dying minutes of their 2-1 victory against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions league final.
Beckham is nothing less than a breathing legend for the English fans and is one of the respected footballers of all time. For him to take over as the English boss and take the team to new heights would be fantastic, but the player has no plans whatsoever for that responsibility, well at least for now.
