Question:

I wrecked my car?

So a week ago I wrecked my car. I had liability insurance and I owned my car(wasn't making car payments). My insurance didn't have to pay any hospital bills or towing fees and no other vehicles were involved in the accident. The officer handed me a sheet of paper and said if I didn't fill it out and send it in 20 days I would get my liscense taken away. I have no idea what I did with that sheet of paper and was wondering what is it and where can I get another one? And please don't get onto me about losing it. Nobody is in their right mind when the car they saved up for a year to buy rolls six times down a hill. Also, do I need to tell my insurance that I had an accident?

  1. Just to be on the up-and-up, you should tell your insurance provider that you were in an accident, but if all you're carrying is liability, that's going to be the end of it.  They aren't going to pay anything for a one-car accident.

Talk to the local police department about what that paper might have been.

Too bad about the car.  Be careful.

  2. Since no one else was hurt, and no property damage was done, and you were not CITED or given a ticket for careless driving or something, you do not have to tell the insurance company.  However if you were issued a ticket or citation, which I think the "white paper" was, you might as well tell them because they will find out next time they run your MVR.  Either a ticket or not, I would call the police station and ask for another or what you need to do to make it right.  Don't play games with your D.L.  Good Luck.

  3. if you are willing to accept the loss of the car then don't tell the insurance co. if there are going to be any claims--property damage etc. then definitely tell them in advance. contact the local PD and they will fix you up with another form.
