  1. Don't buy Monster ... waste of money.  Read the material at Blue Jean Cables on Component cables (See link). Their best quality cable -- equal to or better than Monster -- is about $60 for an 8' cable. Budget cables cost as little as $4 at Monoprice (2nd link) ... although I'd opt for something a little better in their lineup, it still shouldn't cost more than $15-$20 for a good cable.

On your 37" TV you are highly unlikely to see ANY difference between a $15 and $124 cable.

That said, if you are wanting to watch upconverted DVDs, you may need an HDMI cable since many players don't output HD over component.

You CAN use component if you are feeding a 480p signal, for example, to your HDTV and letting it do the upconversion.

That said, a true upconverting player would probably give a bit better picture. Should you want to try that route the HD-A3 HD DVD player from Toshiba is an excellent upconverter that also plays HD DVDs ... it's currently being sold off for as little as $100 comes with free HD DVDs in the box (along with a mail in coupon for 5 more until the end of Feb).

    Happy viewing.

  2. I won't bore you with a bunch of technical jargin, but the Monster cables are TECHNICALLY better. That said you will never be able to really tell the differance. I used to sell this stuff and trust me I loved to sell people $125 cables, but spend the extra money on something else. Hope this helps.

  3. The $22 cable is a giveaway, probably. I trust Monster to a fault ( audio and video ). They offer relative high quality ( high enough you'd not notice the difference between those 5x the price ). So, don't compromise! You can usually talk down the price if you're buying something else or have online printouts where you can buy cheaper. Get the Monster! If you need more info ( real life applications ) I have them.

  4. Don't waste money on expensive cables.  There have been MANY studies/polls to see if people can see or hear the difference in cheap or high end cables and most people can't.  Buy radio shack brand of something that isn't alot of dough.

  5. Don't buy into that Monster Cable c**p!!!!

I make my own component cables out of coax, and put right next to a TV with Monster Cables, they're exactly the same.  Just get a decent cable with some clean RCA tips and you'll be fine.

    Stick with the Rocketfish!
