IAAF Diamond League Athletes - Usain Bolt Strikes Again In China

He is rightly labelled Insane Bolt by the critics of Athletics, as he is truly a special phenomenon capable of producing stunning feats and smashing one record after another.

Once again it was a day of special achievement for the Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, who celebrated his return to China for the first time since his Beijing Olympic heroics with a comfortable victory in the 200 metres at the Shanghai Diamond League meeting.

Bolt who had the most memorable run in the history of Olympics in Beijing, less than two years ago returned to the scene of his sensational achievements at the Bird's Nest arena, the Olympic and world champion treated Shanghai Stadium to a more controlled performance on a cool evening in China's financial capital.

Bolt crossed the line 10 meters clear of the field in 19.76 seconds, outside his own world best time of the year (19.56) and well shy of his world mark (19.19).

The 23-year-old Jamaican, who ran the fastest 100 meters of the year (9.86) in Daegu, last week finished ahead of Americans Angelo Taylor and Ryan Bailey in second and third.

The victory was Bolt’s first in the meet in his debut run in the new 14-leg elite Diamond League circuit; he had skipped the opening meeting in Doha earlier this month.

Meanwhile Bolt’s heroics were balanced out by Carmelita Jeter when the American scored a commanding victory over world and Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser in the women's 100m.

Jeter, who also had a tremendous run in the same city last year running the second fastest 100m of all time, was slower out of the blocks but caught up with and then overhauled her Jamaican rival.

She forced herself with a stunning display of speed across the track crossing the line in 11.09 seconds.

It was Jeter's seventh win in a row since finishing third at the world championships in Berlin last year, a race won by Fraser.

American David Oliver won the 110 meters hurdles, in 12.99 seconds to douse the hopes of hometown hero Liu Xiang and world champion Ryan Brathwaite.

Jeremy Wariner of the United States won the men's 400 meters in 45.41 seconds, beating fellow American David Neville into second place (45.70).

American Lashina Demus of the United States ran the fastest time this year in the women's 400 meters hurdles, winning in 53.34secs.

Sentayehu Ejigu of Ethiopia delivered the fastest time of the season in the women's 5,000 metres, crossing the line in 14 minutes 30.96 seconds Diamond League selected results from Shanghai on Sunday.
