Question:

IB versus film... help please!!?

Tomorrow I must make a decision that affects the entire course of my life. So, naturally; I shall post the question on yahoo answers!

The predicament is this;

My school has two programs; one is the IB and the other is the AP. They are both academically rigorous and I have been accepted into both. My school is an international school and thus, most people say that the IB is the better program. AP and IB tests are obviously both challenging, but the teachers in the IB program are known to be better. I am extremely competitive academically. In the last two years my GPA has averaged between 3.9 and 4.0. I am interested in pursuing a career in film making, advertising, or writing. The problem with the IB program is that it has SO many course requirements, you cannot take electives.

My school also has one of the best high school film programs in the country. The kids in it get into Sundance and many other well known film festivals. I have been wanting to be in this program since I was in elementary school and I can only do it if I pick the AP. I know I would probably be better suited academically for IB but frankly I don’t know all that much about it.

What I want to know is what you think I should pick…. AP or IB; and also, in your opinion, which looks better on college transcripts?

Thank you for your advice

  1. if you really want to do film, go for AP, i've never heard of IB but i do know that i went through AP classes and high school and almost every college will accept AP credits. Enjoy your high school and take AP, that way you still have the opportunity to work on your career dreams.

  2. Honestly?

    I'd say IB.

    AP is a "Oh, you might get college credit if you do well on the exam."

    IB is a "We're forcing you to get college credit."

    Then again, it's all a matter of choice. By the way, do you have only 6 classes a year or 8? IB only demands 6 of your classes and most schools have 7-8 classes. I'm pretty sure 2 electives a year is sacrificial to the best high school diploma in the world. Every college will accept you.

  3. I would take AP..but that's just me

  4. I'm in IB and it's great if you have the right set of mind. IB is more of an international program. If what you really want is to be in the sundance program then go into AP and follow your dreams. Not everyone makes it in IB, you have to be a hard worker and actually be prepared to spend most of your time on homework and other academic things for more info you can go to www.ibo.org or speak to your counselor
