I received this laptop from my dad in June. I immediately had a wireless network put in my house. The computer was working fine, that is until we moved. The network had to be moved also. The cable company sent out a hired contractor (which I'm finding out is people whom are not necessarily with the company) who said that he was "having trouble" setting up this network(although the previous guy through the company had no problem) and said that he would have to take off my antivirus and spyware to set it up. I figured that he knew what he was doing. Anyways, he was here for two hours, had to call someone else, they came and were done within 5 minutes. The supervisors left. The guy said he was going to check my connection. Then, he left. When I got on my laptop, my antivirus and spyware protection were still down. As soon as I went to put them back up, a message replaced my background. The message says: "Warning! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer". I've located the file that installed it. It's name is "antivirXP08". I've tried going to the control panel, add/remove programs and deleting it, but whenever I try and delete it, a screen pops up saying uninstall.exe has encountered problems and needs to close.....Send error report. I've tried removing it with my antivirus and spyware to no avail. I've looked at the response to someone else's question about removing a virus withough delteing anything and I don't have the anticipated choices that the answerer expected. I'm absolutely stuck and clueless. I am due in 2 weeks and have a two year old daughter. Honestly, I will lose my sanity without the use of my computer during nap time lol. Could someone please offer me some type of help? Thank you.

  1. Do this:

Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore.

Choose restore my computer to another date and time, not a restore point.  I would suggest go back as far as you can go it should reach June 2008.

Try that and see if that helps

  2. Do your scans in safe mode when you have these probs because some viruses cant be uninstalled while their still running.

Also scan for malware while your in safe mode with windows, enter..mrt.. into the run commands and scan.

    Remember SAFE MODE

  4. If your computer has been accessing the Internet unprotected it is infected.

Spyware has surpassed viruses as the #1 threat to identity theft and without protection your Internet activities are never private.

To get rid of spyware and keep your computer clean you can use an antispyware or even more.

  5. "Warning! Spyware detected on your computer" is a result of rogue antispyware program called Antivirus XP 2008 that infects user’s computer system. This adware hijacks users desktop, it changes wallpaper with this message:

“Warning! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer”

"Warning! Spyware detected on your computer" can also change users homepage and show this type of message:

”Insecure internet activity. Threat of virus attack”

Most likely this adware will carry user into rogue antispyware promoting site and will try to force user into buying a rogue antispyware program like Antivirus XP 2008. "Warning! Spyware detected on your computer" can also download rogue antispyware without user’s permission using browser security holes. WWW.Pcthreat.com recommends users to remove this dangerous adware from their computer system!
