  1. A laptop can not get reformatted! A hard disc can, or a Floppy disc! But you can't reformat a laptop! If you want to reformat your hard disc (be very very careful that you have a backup etc) you just right click on your drive in File Explorer and select Format! But if you delete everything on the HD, how will you install windows etc. without a CD rom?

  2. It's probably your hard drive ! It's either corrupted or dying. You should get a new one, the reinstall your OS from your CD ( Vista or XP or etc...).

  3. any hard drive can be reformatted. for laptops its best to go to yor venders website and purchase the recory cds. mine was only $10 and the laptop will be as it was out of the factory.

get avast virus protection, you can use it for free

    get spyware protection, download spy-bot

  4. the only risk is you wont have any programs installed and you lose all your data. other than that try a boot fix from an xp install disk.

  5. You will have to reinstall everything.

First get off all or the files and everything you want.  This will be your last chance.  go into the device manager and print of write down all of the system info.

Put in the original OS disk that came with you r computer and hit F12 as soon as the boot screen comes up.  Select boot from cd hit a ke to accept and the format the drive and reinstall the OS.

Now use the info from your device manager windo to reinstall all of the drivers.  This can be a long an painful process.

Now reinstall all of the software that you have ever purchased (except the virus) and move your important files back over.

    Easy... right

  6. Have you tried booting into safe mode?  Right after the mfgs logo or the hardware detection hit f8, or it may stop on that menu that gives you the safe mode options. Choose that. If you can log in there, try to run checkdisk. You can open my computer and right click your "C" drive and select porperties then tools tab. Click on Error checking. It may require you to reboot.

IF that doesn't work, try doing a repair reinstall of windows. It could be that it didn't shut down properly and is missing some important dll file or something.

IF you do a repair reinstall make sure it's the second time it asks to do a repair, right after hitting F8 for the EULA.  If windows setup doesn't detect your drives you'll need to hit f6 at the beginning of the install and insert the floppy disk with your harddrive controller's drivers that should come with your motherboard.  I

f windows doesn't detect a previous version of your copy of windows...then you need to possibly stop here because if you continue on you will delete everything on that drive including any personal things you may want to get off.

I would suggest getting a laptop to ide converter or an external harddrive case for your laptop drive and copying and needed files of first...
