  1. If you are talking about inductive loads, power diodes or transorbs are normally used as snubbers.

    If you are talking line terminators, many years ago, Fairchild Semiconductor made a truly nifty line terminator. Probably in Fairchild TTL databook circa 1980 if you can find one. It was essentially a one terminal device, one of the few I've ever seen! Actually, if you count the power and ground lines that drove 8 terminators, maybe a little more than one terminal.

    I can't find it anymore, google "active line terminator" to see modern equivalents. Look at their datasheet to see the equivalent circuit to see how it's done.

    Basically, I believe it used TTL (totem pole) transistors held out of saturation to clip any bounces high (over something like 3V) or low under about 0.4V) for 5V systems.

    Rail to rail CMOS limits used now are different from the classical TTL limits, so you have to be careful not to draw or supply too much current steady state.
