ICC 2-day meeting in Dubai, key issues to be discussed
At present, the International Cricket Board (ICC) is in a two day executive meeting in Dubai. The ICC board’s most important subject for discussion would surely be the recent match-fixing fiasco on Pakistan’s tour of England, and the inclusion of a Test
Championship in the international cricket arena.
Other matters such as which teams would be participating in the 50 and 20 over World Cup’s will be discussed in detail.
The ICC boards consists of the chair personnel from the ten full members of the council, and 3 representatives from the Associate cricketing nations and above all, the meeting would be led by ICC’s top three officials like the President, the vice-president
and the chief executive.
The match fixing scandal that took place during the England-Pakistan Test Series in August would top the agenda of the executive meeting, as the scandal has affected the entire sport of cricket.
One would also get updates regarding the allegations against the temporarily suspended Pakistani trio. Former Test skipper Salman Butt, and pace bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir are the Pakistani trio, who are also having an independent court hearing
in the last week of October in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Qatar-c2986.
The controversial English tour of the Pakistani cricket team almost ruined the trust and faith of the billions of cricket fans and viewers throughout the world. Thus, like before the international cricketing fraternity has urged the cricket council to resolve
the issue as soon as possible.
Also, much awaited are the ICC Chief Executive Committee’s recommendations regarding the extensive reconstruction of the international game by introducing a Test Championship, on the contrary, the number of 50-over tournaments will reduce and 20 over tournaments
will take place more frequently and with more teams.
Other proposals such as a four-day-long Test league, something similar to the “ICC Inter-Continental Cup” between the Associate cricket teams, will come into play. For the 50-over format, there is a proposed one-day league, which would take over three years
starting from April 2011. Not to forget, that the ICC is planning to introduce a T20 World ranking system.
The 2-day meeting of the ICC Executive Committee, which started on Tuesday, is being closely watched as the World waits for the ICC’s final verdict on the above mentioned issues and concerns. It is expected that by Thursday 14th of October, 2010,
the council would announce the details.
However, the ICC proposal of reducing the number of 50-over tournaments and lessening the number of teams to just full members, and the 20-over tournaments to increase with more participation from both full members and associate cricketing countries, the
entire proposal was highly criticised by Associate teams.
Associate countries such http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 have made their intent very clear regarding the matter, as they believe, and, rightly so, that they need more of Test and 50 over formats in the international arena to develop their national cricket teams.
On the other hand, ICC official says that the board or committee hasn’t made any decisions regarding the subject and it is up to the executive committee, as it will give updates by the close of the ongoing meeting in Dubai.
The Associate teams believe that this course of action is safeguarding the interest of the full members playing teams of the ICC, and that if the Associates are given more of the 20 over format to play in, it simply wouldn’t allow their respective international
cricket to grow.
Besides all the ongoing future concerns brought up in last month’s ICC Chief Executive Committee meeting, the ICC board is also reviewing the progress of the preparations of the upcoming ICC World Cup in early 2011.
One can only hope that the ICC Executive meeting can make the best decision regarding these matters, and look to expand and bring more cricketing markets, rather than narrowing the scope of the international cricketing arena.
