ICC Anxiously Awaiting the Inquiry Report on Spot-Fixing by Pakistani Players at Lord’s
The ICC management is anxiously waiting for the inquiry report on the alleged spot-fixing by Pakistani players in a Test match against England at Lord's. ICC wants some findings to be available before the Twenty20 matches between England and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard.
He announced his plans to reach London in order to remain updated on the fast changing situation. Lorgat gave a terse briefing about the progress on the discussions that took place between ICC, PCB and ECB. He expressed unanimity in all the three boards on the current fiasco and asserted the unanimous stance of purging out corrupt players from the cricket arena in case the inquiry report considers them guilty. Lorgat assured the media about ICC’s commitment to stem out corruption from the sport. Lorgat accepted the fact that the image and reputation of cricket has been put at stake by the wrongdoings of a few individuals, and they must be taken to task accordingly. He was, however, optimistic about the majority of players having unchallenging integrity and honesty. He asserted the stance that ICC and the larger cricket fraternity across the globe would not let the game be hijacked by a few individuals. He urged people to have faith and confidence in the game, and to respect the dignity and commitment of those players who play the sport in the right spirit for the glory of their own nation.
It is interesting to note that a vast majority of cricket fans as well as seasoned officials are expressing premature anger prior to the finalization of the inquiry report. Let’s suppose that the allegations are proved to be baseless and fabricated, then who would be responsible for such a fiasco? The media responsibility issue would definitely surface, but the panic, disappointment, and loss of respect caused by the British tabloid should not go unaccounted. The degradation of the entire Pakistani nation across the globe requires strict action against the News of the World tabloid. The coverage that was given to the alleged rigging was exceptional. While it is the responsibility of the media to uncover corrupt practices and unethical activities in the sports arena, the repercussions arising out of the coverage before the crime is proved requires consideration. The stigmatization and loss of reputation as a result of the coverage may never be recovered, even in case the players are declared innocent by the inquiry team. The people of Pakistan would never be able to recover from the immense shock they received from the news of their heroes being involved in spot-fixing (as seen in the picture, even now protesters in the cricket-mad nation of Pakistan burn effigies of their once-idolized cricketing stars). Even the response from the people presented in the Pakistani media depicted immense anger and frustration against the alleged players. The worst perception in the people was further fuelled by the past record of the alleged players. It would have been better had the inquiry been conducted quietly away from media limelight. The step may have saved lot of people from unnecessary embarrassment and humiliation, and perhaps, rather premature uproar.
