ICC Chairman Sharad Pawar "the face of corrupt Indian politician"
Sharad Pawar the chairman of the ICC was elected in the recent past as the chairman of the ICC, and it makes the cricket fans wonder what is the criteria that makes a man involved in multiple corruption scams eligible to be the chairman of the cricketing body.
According to the chairman himself, he is no richer than 36 million Rs, the statistics claim otherwise. It has been revealed in the recent IPL Pune team bidding that he has 16% stake in city finance and the team is supposedly worth 12 billion Rs. According to this 16 % share, his wealth would be approximately 40 million dollars if not more. Interestingly the Pawars consistently denied any IPL stake, but now have had to declare it publicly.
Sharad Pawar is essentially an Indian politician and considered to be the richest politician in India from the state of Maharashtra. He has previously held the position of the Minister of Defence and chief Minister of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Maharashtra-c811. He is currently serving as Minister of Agriculture and Consumer affairs for the government of India.
In the mid 1990’s when Sharad Pawar was in power in the Indian government he was accused by the Deputy Commissioner of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporaton, G.R Khairnar made a number of allegations against Pawar for being involved in corruption and protecting criminals. The opposition parties also alleged Pawar’s government of trying to shield corrupt officers.
The BJP asked for Pawar’s resignation after he was alleged to be involved in a multi-million scam involving the import of wheat. On October 27, 2007 the Bombay High Court served notices to institutions header by Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar and Sadanand Sule (who is Pawar’s son in law) along with a notice served to another government institution for giving special priveleges to Pawar and his family.
Government land was handed out to kith and kin by Pawar and his family, which included two 142 acre plots allotted to Vidya Pratishthan, an educational society headed by Pawar. In 2008 he was served contempt of court for making statements about this issue in the press when the issue in fact was subjudice. Not only that, our very own chairman of the ICC is also listed on the No criminals website as an incriminated offender of the Religion Institution Act 1988.
According to sources Pawar has made millions through the illegal accusation of land, and renting out government land for incredibly low prices. In December 2008 the supreme court stayed criminal proceedings against Sharad Pawar and five other BCCI members. Former board president filed a case of perjury for allegedly producing false documents in court relating to Pawars expulsion in December 2006.
In July 2005 ICC amended its constitution so that Sharad Pawar could continue as the ICC vice president till the end of his term. ICC rules had earlier stated that any VP could not hold dual posts, while Pawar was both BCCI president and ICC vice-president.
In November 2007 an FIR was registered against the Sharad Pawar and secretary Niranjan Shah lodged by a http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 ODI match at the same place. 120 million Rs was the reported amount which was mismanaged.
"I would go to the length of giving the whole congress a decent burial, rather than put up with the corruption that is rampant." Mahatma Gandhi once said about corruption.
However while the poor people were dying due to hunger and poverty, and food grains were rotting in the Indian government go-downs Sharad Pawar the Union Minister for Agriculture was busy making bids for IPL franchises and lobbying to become the ICC chairman.
“All that mattered to Sharad Pawar was money and profits. It still is what matters the most to him even though due to his complete apathy poor http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 is dying everyday. Sharad Pawar is the face of the corrupt Indian politician and the decadence of ethical standards and morals values in politics,” reads one Indian report published on the Internet.
With Sharad Pawar the ‘face of corrupt Indian politician’ as the ICC chairman, it could hardly be expected that the governing body of cricket will be able to root out corruption from its system any time soon, but rather it is more likely that the ICC will now foster it.
