ICC Cricket World Cup 2011: Canada eye upsets in the event
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ashish-Bagai-c46284, the Canadian captain, stated that his team will emerge as the underdogs of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 in the Subcontinent that goes underway from February 19th, 2011.
He said that the team is prepared with a set goal to excel during cricket’s biggest extravaganza and is determined to be causing upsets in the first round of the game.
“...(the team) discussed their expectations and goal (to cause upsets),” the 28-year-old stated before adding that they have a goal of beating Zimbabwe and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752, and advance to beat four other teams.
The Indian descent right-handed batsman told a news conference after arriving in Dhaka that they had a “successful stint” at a training camp that was organised by the ICC for Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Canada at the ICC Global Cricket Academy, Dubai.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 played two games in the camp, winning the first match by four wickets against minnows Netherlands on the 6th of February, 2011.
However, they slumped to a loss in their second match which was held on February 8th. The match saw http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 shooting out Canada for 105 runs in just 30.3 overs. The top-order of the Canadian team failed to give their side a stable platform
five batsmen going back to the pavilion with just eight runs on the board, while tail-ender Khurram Chohan scored 24 for his team. The Canadian skipper, himself, got out for a duck.
But the bowling department was mediocre, yet, they could not do anything to win as there were not enough runs to defend.
However, when a reporter pointed out that particular loss, Bagai avoided the question and replied that they had a “decent” bowling attack.
“...they (the bowlers) are a little bit inexperienced but very exciting players,” he stated.
Canada’s best moment in the World Cup came when the team defeated http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in 2003, but they have not advanced to the second round of the tournament as yet.
The team will be playing their first warm-up match against Bangladesh on February 12th, before facing England in another warm-up match on the 16th of the same month. They would be kicking-off their World Cup campaign from the 20th of
February, against Sri Lanka.
