ICC Intercontinental Shield 2009/10 Recap-UAE seeks redemption against Namibia, Day 2
The first day of the International Cricket Council (ICC) Intercontinental Shield Cup final between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/United-Arab-Emirates-c3033 (UAE) and Namibia was a one-sided affair, as the Namibian bowlers and top order batsmen dominated the first session. Namibia was standing
strong on a comfortable 267 for three, which included an aggressive century by Namibia’s captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Craig-Williams-c51765 (116 runs).
However, the second day began in hectic fashion at the ICC Global Cricket Academy in Dubai. Sarel Burger was caught off the bowling of Shoaib Sarwar off the first ball of the day for 73 runs. Namibian middle order batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tobias-Verwey-c94153 was next to follow,
as he was bowled out by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Amjad-Javed-c44094 for a duck.
The UAE bowlers restricted Namibia to 269 for the loss of seven wickets. Fast bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shoaib-Sarwar-c90093 took two wickets in the first over of the day, while Amjad claimed wickets in the second and fourth overs of the morning.
Namibian http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mohammad-Tauqir-c77416 grabbed his wicket, as Namibia found themselves on 304 for the loss of eight wickets.
Tail-ender http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Louis-Klazinga-c73186 (5 runs off 6 balls) was the ninth Namibian wicket to fall, as Arshad Ali wrapped up the first innings by removing Louis van der Wsthuizen’s, after he had smashed five boundaries in his 34-run innings, to lead his team to a total
of 320-runs.
Arshad Ali was the bowler of the day, finishing with figures of three for 46. Ali told reporters after the game, “I enjoyed my spell. The pitch was a little helpful as the ball was skidding a bit. So I bowled a little straight. It was good to take some wickets.”
UAE started their second innings after lunch, as the openers padded up in full confidence. They made some changes to the top-order, as the first day’s top- scorer http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Naeemuddin-Aslam-c78483 moved up the order to open for his side.
Naeemuddin (48 runs off 121 balls) and Arshad Ali (50 runs off 85 balls) shared a 98-run partnership, as they hit six and nine boundaries respectively. The openers took the fight to the Namibian spin attack, until the first wicket fell to Sarel Burger. Khurram
Khan soon followed after he was trapped leg before, scoring five runs in a lacklustre performance.
Right-hand batsman Shaiman Anwar soon went back to the dressing room as Namibian medium-fast bowler Lois Klazinga captured the fourth UAE wicket, as the hosts trailed by 116. Burger then chipped in with the wicket of Amjad Ali to reduce the UAE to 131 for
five wickets.
However, right-handed batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saqib-Ali-c88733 put in a resilient performance, as he was unbeaten on 42 on the second day, to steer his team to 200 for the loss of five wickets.
The UAE's star bowler Arshad Ali was optimistic that his side would avoid defeat , despite still needed 41-runs on the four day final.
“We are still happy to be back into the game and hope that the middle order takes the team toward the victory.”
UAE need the sixth wicket partnership between Saqib and Swapnil Patil to steer the home side close, with the hope of making http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 bat again, in order to secure the title.
