ICC President Sharad Pawar overwhelmed with the standard of cricket - ICC World Cup 2011 Update
President of the International Cricket Council Sharad Pawar has expressed his views on the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011 being played in the Subcontinent and commented that the tournament is one of the best so far in cricketing history.
Pawar is watching the tournament closely and is impressed by the underdogs performing exceptionally well against the bigger teams.
He is overwhelmed with the improvement of the overall standard of play. Previously, there was very little crowd presence during certain limited overs matches, but teams like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 have certainly impressed a great many people and the attendance
in the cricket arena is increasing substantially.
Pawar said, “The standard of cricket has been impressive and there is no doubt that 50-over cricket has a real attraction and an amazing appeal for players, spectators in the grounds and the hundreds of millions watching on television around the world.”
This World Cup has certainly attracted many people who do not watch the sport closely. Matches like the tie between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 have given a tremendous boost to the sport all over the world. Pawar was more than happy with the display of Ireland, who
had a slight chance of making it through to the quarter-final stage.
Before the tournament commenced, the ICC President was not expecting much from these limited over games, as they take more time compared to the T20 format. He was overjoyed with the way people have shown their interest in this sport.
According to media reports, the 50-over format is a long one and this will not attract much of the spectators. However, they have been proven wrong, as the tournament is filling the stadiums and keeping the fans glued to their televisions.
Pawar stated, “I think the television and crowd figures demonstrate the enduring appeal of the 50-over game and I have no doubt that it will continue to grow from strength to strength in the future.”
This World Cup has redefined the record books and the prediction of cricket gurus has been turned upside down in a few matches. Pawar was satisfied with the performances of the three host nations and said that they have prepared the grounds up to international
standards to attract a large number of crowds and keep the games competitive.
