President of the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alan-Raymond-Isaac-c42771, has offered his thanks to Cricket Australia and its affiliated partners for having arranged a “world-class” ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012.
“It has truly been a world-class tournament. It is the first time the event has returned to Australia since it was first staged here 24 years ago and I know the cricketers have appreciated the level of organisation and expertise that was brought to the event,” Isaac said.
“I am truly grateful to Cricket Australia, Queensland Cricket and the ICC team for the way in which they put the whole thing together. It has been really very impressive,” he added.
The U-19 World Cup, initially arranged as a one-off event in 1988 in Australia, has been held every two years since 1998, with up to 16 teams participating in the tournament. The current edition, kicked off with a string of warm-up matches, played from August 1 to 8, with the actual tournament arranged in Buderim, Brisbane, and Townsville. Following the culmination of the league stage of the tournament, the venues were narrowed down to Brisbane and Townsville, with the thrilling final played between the India and Australia Under-19s at the Tony http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 Stadium in Townsville on August 26.
“Special thanks to Events http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 and the people of Brisbane and Townsville, backed this event so magnificently,” Isaac said, adding that the partners had been awarded the tournament only last year, and had had little time to complete preparations for the event.
