ICC Test rankings – Michael Clarke reclaims top batsman spot – Cricket News Update

Leading his side to their first home victory this season, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 scored a dominating 74 in the first innings followed by a 57* in the second (before he suffered a hamstring strain and retired hurt) against Sri Lanka at Hobart. Following the end of the Test
Match, Clarke replaced West Indian, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, to become the top batsman on ICC’s Test rankings.
Clarke entered the Hobart clash against the touring Lankans trailing Chanderpaul by a single point. However, following the result, the 31-year-old now leads the veteran West Indies batsman by 9 points.
The second contender for the position, England’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, sustained his 4th position on the table following his double failure in the final Nagpur Test against India (where he scored 1 & 13 in his two innings). He was reported to
have lost 38 points on the ICC rankings that were revealed this Tuesday.
According to the new standings, Australia’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TM-Dilshan-c2691 was promoted to 24th,
ahead of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737 (37th).
The players who slipped through the rankings are England’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/TT-Samaraweera-c2712 who dropped down the ladder by 4 & 2, standing at 21st and 17th
respectively. India’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CA-Pujara-c1209 were also demoted to 22nd and 26th
positions.
After a disappointing 30 and 5 from Australia’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 (during the Hobart Test), he was also pushed down the rankings by 3 positions. He currently stands 39th on the Table.
The Australian skipper has had a perfect year so far, scoring 4 double-hundreds (a pair each against India and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 Ponting’s 1,544-run record in a calendar year by only 55 runs, Clarke will be looking to surpass his predecessor,
provided he recovers before the Boxing Day Test against Sri Lanka (the last Test before year-end).
