ICC To Hold Teleconference with Lawyers of Suspended Trio
The International Council of Cricket is going to hold a teleconference with the lawyers of suspended trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Aamir on Tuesday.
The ICC took the decision to hold the conference after receiving request from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-c88163 Butt’s UK based lawyer Yasin Patel to postpone the full hearing which was scheduled to take place in Doha from January 6 to 11.
Giving details about ICC’s this recent decision, a source told, “Butt has asked for an extension in the dates of the hearing that will decide basically the fact of the three players who are charged of involvement in spot-fixing by the ICC anti-corruption
unit.”
The source further disclosed that Butt’s lawyer had requested to postpone the hearing until the probes about the spot-fixing allegations made by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard.
Dwelling upon the matter, the source said, “The teleconference is being held with the players and their lawyers to consider and discuss the request of Butt and his lawyer since the other two players are also scheduled to attend the hearing in January.”
The source at ICC also went on saying that there were indications, according to which, it was being perceived that lawyers of other two players were not contended at Patel’s request to delay the full hearing as they were keen to have a decision by the anti-corruption
tribunal as soon as possible.
According to the sources, if the ICC’s anti corruption unit succeeds in finding solid evidences against the suspended trio, along with heavy fines; it will impose a lifetime ban upon the players.
Among the afore-mentioned Pakistani suspended players, Butt has consistently been at loggerheads with ICC as he has also been reported to regard the hearing tribunal as biased and discriminating. However, in an attempt to make his case represented in the
best manner, he has been constantly changing his lawyers representing him before the panel.
Recently, ICC had sent back Butt’s reply while regarding it as inappropriate. This was reportedly because Butt’s lawyers had opted for an offensive approach to defend his case, which offended the corresponding authorities, who, giving him mere 24 hours limit,
had asked the player to submit a fresh reply.
