Centurion http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Allan-Robert-Border-c43726 Field in Brisbane today on August 11.
Having been put to bat first after http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 won the toss, Bangladesh U-19 skipper Haque contributed a massive 101 (a performance which won him the Player of the Match award), and was assisted in his efforts by Asif Ahmed’s emphatic 84. Despite Lankan skipper
Sanitha de Mel’s 3 for 46, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 U-19s managed to post a healthy total of 249.
De Mel appeared to have got the match started on the right note, with openers Soumya Sarkar (0) and Liton Das (4) dismissed after contributing paltry scores, although the latter did manage to join Haque for a 2nd-wicket 42-run stand.
The duo of Haque (101) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Asif-Ahmed-c46454 (84), however, was the highlight of the Bangladeshi team’s innings, and their 141-run stand got their side up to 183 by the 41st over. Tharindu Kaushal sent the skipper packing, lbw, and wicketkeeper batsman
Nurul http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hasan-c61990 who followed, was fairly ineffective, contributing just 3 runs before being dismissed by Lahiru Madushanka in the 42nd over.
Asif Ahmed managed to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Adrian-Roger-Kirshaw-Pierson-c42135 it out at the crease for a little longer, teaming up with Al-Amin (21) for a 36-run stand. The remainder of the batsmen chipped in with small contributions, to enable Bangladesh to finish at 249 by the end of 50 overs, at the
expense of 7 wickets.
The Sri Lankan U-19s found themselves unequal to the chase, and despite valiant performances by Angelo Jayasinghe (83) and Madushanka (48), Bangladesh’s Soumya Sarkar (1.4-0-10-3) Taskin Ahmed (10-0-44-2) brought the Lankans’ innings to an end at 224, all
out.
Openers Sebastian Perera (25) and Pabasara Waduge (15) appeared to have got their team off to a steady start, posting a combined total of 42 on the board. However, Perera’s dismissal in the 8th over at the hands of Taskin Ahmed triggered a batting
order collapse which saw the team losing four wickets in quick succession.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nasum-Ahmed-c78778 took care of Waduge in the 11th over, after which Shehan Fernando (1) and Sandun Weerakkody (2) gave their wickets away without putting up much of a fight. Jayasinghe and Madushanka’s 5th wicket 85-run stand lent some stability
to the innings, and following the latter’s dismissal via run out, Jayasinghe teamed up with de Mel (21) for a 53-run stand.
However, the remainder of the batting order could not stand up to the challenge, and Soumya Sarkar, who had all but ended the game with Jayasinghe’s dismissal in the 47th over, mopped up the tail to restrict the Sri Lanka U-19s to 224, all out
– 25 runs short of their target.
