ICC Under-19 World Cup 2012 – Papua New Guinea Under-19s v Zimbabwe Under-19s (4th Match – Group C) – Match Recap
A five-wicket haul by Papua New Guinea Under-19s skipper Christopher Kent went in vain as his side succumbed to a massive 104-run defeat at the hands of the Zimbabwe Under-19s, in their first http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 Under-19 World Cup 2012 match, played at the Endeavour Park
in Townsville today on August 11.
Papua New Guinea won the toss and elected to field first. Zimbabwe got off to a solid start with a 109-run opening stand between Player of the Match Kevin Kasuza (97) and Luke Masasire (47). The partnership came to an end with the dismissal of Masasire at
the hands of Kent (7-0-45-5) in the 25th over, but Kasuza carried on, setting up a 66-run stand with Ryan Burl (29), and a 21-run partnership with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Campbell-c49176 Light (14).
Both Burl and Light were sent packing by Kent, and with the dismissal of Light, Zimbabwe lost 4 wickets in quick succession, with the team total remaining static at 196. Chad Soper (10-1-27-2) sent Kasuza back to the pavilion, lbw, in the 40th
over, following it up with the wicket of skipper Matthew Bentley (0) in the very same over. Raymond Haoda (9-0-43-3) swept Malcolm Lake off the pitch on duck in the 41st over, and Zimbabwe found themselves at 196 for 6, despite having gotten off
to a brilliant start.
The remainder of the batting order registered disappointing performances, with Peacemore Zimwa (19*), Nyasha Mayavo (15), and Kyle Bowie (12) featuring as the only batsmen who managed to make double digit contributions. The Zimbabwe U-19s ultimately posted
a total of 249 on the board.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Papua-New-Guinea-c41002, however, were unable to chase down the target as Zimbabwe’s attack came out in full force, with every bowler managing to claim at least one wicket each, while Luke Jongwe (6-0-36-2), Bentley (7-1-20-2), and Zimwa (10-0-50-2) claimed 2 scalps
each.
Openers Lega Siaka (10) and Vagi Oala (0) remained uninspiring, and both gave their wickets away without much of a fight. Skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Charles-Amini-c49702 (9) managed to establish the highest partnership on their side (a 30-run stand) while Sese Bau (who
top-scored for his team with 34) set up two respectable partnerships – a 26-run stand with Dogodo Bau (8) and a 22-run stand with Raturima Maha (14) – before his dismissal at the hands of Bentley.
With the exception of Toua Tom (17*), the remainder of the batting order crumbled without offering the Zimbabwe Under-19s much resistance, with Soper run out on duck, Norman Vanua (9) sent packing by Zimwa, and Haoda (3) dismissed by Lake.
The Papua New Guinea Under-19s were eventually restricted, all out, to 145 by the end of 39 overs – 104 runs short of their target. The victory granted the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 Under-19s 2 points, which will serve to boost their confidence for their next match – against
the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 Under-19s on August 14.
