Taking on a fruitful decision, Scotland U19 skipper, Patrick Sadler, won the toss and chose to bat first, kicking off the bout with opening batsmen, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ross-Alexander-McLean-c86871 and team wicket-keeper Mathew Cross.
With the Namibian bowlers, Stephen Baard and Pieter Groenewald, taking their run up marks, the match was brought alive as the batting pair took on some safe batting, producing some fair numbers for the team.
The duo, offering some safe batting, coupled with occasional boundaries, managed to offer a strong footing on the crease, leading the side towards the first half of the innings.
However, with the arrival of the 22nd over, Scotland suffered a swift blow on its batting line-up after losing 5 quick wickets in the following successive overs, bringing the team to an aggregate of 97 runs in 25.4 overs, with a loss of 5 wickets.
Openers McLean and Cross, offered an impressive run at the crease, contributing a notable 83 runs opening for the team. Both the batters marked their return after scoring 35 and 33 runs respectively.
With the middle order now left to take on the remaining innings, the procession went on with sluggish runs added to the total, coupled with some consistent wicket loss.
The innings finally came to a closure in the 43rd over, with the side earning a modest total of 180 runs following a loss of 9 wickets.
Taking on a fair chase, in comparison, the Namibian batting session took off with a troubling start after the team lost an early wicket in the inning’s second over. The player to mark his quick return was opener Justin Baard, who exited the pitch after being
caught and bowled by Aman Bailwal.
With some slow numbers added to the total, at a minor aggregate of 19, the batting side went on to lose another player in the 9th over followed by one more wicket in the 12th over.
The early moments of the Namibian batting session brought a quick end to the team’s top order, however with Pelham Myburgh, alongside three down batsman Pieter Groenewald, the side saw some hope its way after the pair managed to bring a slight halt to the
wicket loss, leading the team into the 24th over of the day.
However, failing to retain their stumps, the pair was finally parted followed by another quick wicket in 27th over. Coupled with slow addition of runs, the manner continued for the Namibian players as Scottish bowlers went on to ravage the batting
line-up, bringing an end to the team’s misery in the 40th over, dismissing all of its players.
