On Thursday, November 17, 2011 spectators at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) Women’s World Cup Qualifier.
Sri Lanka, who are among the teams who have a solid batting line-up in the current tournament gave a phenomenal performance with the ball as they incinerated the Zimbabweans and won the match by seven wickets.
After winning the toss, Sri Lanka chose to field first as they knew that they had the batswomen capable enough of chasing even the mightiest of totals.
The Lankan bowlers knew right from the start what was expected and dismissed the Zimbabwean openers early in the innings, pulverising the batting side’s hopes of taking off to a flying start.
With two wickets down for only three runs on the board this was certainly a disastrous start for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045.
Middle-order batswomen http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Christabel-Chatonzwa-c50673 and Nonhlanhla Nyathi then tried to salvage some pride as they tried to craft a befitting resistance against their rivals.
However, they were no match against the rampant Sri Lankan bowlers and lost their wickets after scoring 11 and 18 runs.
It was then a joyride for the Sri Lankans as they completely annihilated the remaining batting line-up without letting the Zimbabwean batswomen score in double figures.
Consequently, Zimbabwe ended their innings after posting a meagre tally of 62 runs in 41.4 overs.
From http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Chamani-Roshini-Seneviratna-c49528 was the pick of the bowlers as she bagged five wickets, while Sherina Ravikumar grabbed three wickets to her name.
With a small total to overcome, Sri Lanka had all the time in the world to go for the expected victory without taking any risks.
While opener Chamari Atapattu failed to bat a solid knock as he departed on the second delivery of the innings after scoring only two runs, her opening partner Yasoda Mendis smashed her side to victory by posting 35 runs.
In the end, Sri Lanka reached the required tally in 10.5 overs for the loss of three wickets.
CR Seneviratna was named as the Player of the Match for her marvellous bowling.
