Zimbabwe 103 v South Africa 106 - South Africa Women won by 10 wickets (with 228 balls remaining)
On Sunday, November 20, 2011 South Africa grabbed an emphatic victory against their African counterpart Zimbabwe after beating them by 10 wickets in the 18th match of the ongoing International Cricket Council (CC) Women’s World Cup Qualifier at
Narayanganj Osmani Stadium, Fatullah, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747.
With the tremendous form of the South Africans and the amateurish form of Zimbabwe that match marked a perfect David and Goliath contest, however, in this time Goliath (South Africa) won the clash by a large margin.
South Africa, who have one of the mightiest batting line-ups in the ongoing tournament chose to field first after winning the toss as they knew their batswomen could chase any total thrown at them.
From Zimbabwe, openers Ashley Ndiraya and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sinikiwe-Mpofu-c90471 took the field, seeking an upset in the tournament by defeating the mightiest team in the qualifiers; however, their journey was cut short as South Africa grabbed their first wicket in the 14th
over when Ndiraya after scoring 22 runs lost her wicket. At the time of her departure, Zimbabwe had posted only 34 runs on the board.
On a tally of 37, Zimbabwe lost their second wicket when number-three batswoman Thandolwenkosi Mlilo found her way back to the pavilion after scoring only two runs. With two wickets down, things were beginning to slip away from the Zimbabweans.
Disaster struck when on 41 runs the batting side lost their third wicket as Mpofu was dismissed after scoring 13 runs. With her out of the way there was little sting left in the Zimbabwean batting line-up as before Zimbabwe could add another run in their
tally, they lost another wicket.
With four wickets down for 41, Zimbabwe were heading for a train wreck before Nonhlanhla Nyathi and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pellagia-Mujaji-c81316 contributed 21 and 20 runs to help their side post 103 runs in 50 overs.
With a meagre total ahead of them, South Africa cited an easy win as they began their innings to grab another two points from the match.
Openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Trisha-Chetty-c94414 shielded the rest of the batswomen from coming on the crease as they reached the target in 12 overs by scoring 69 and 25 runs.
South African spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sunette-Loubser-c91828 was named as the Player of the Match for taking five wickets in the game.
