Fans at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 2 Ground, Savar saw a low scoring match between the teams from United States of America and Sri Lanka on Sunday 21, 2011 as the Lankan beat USA by eight wickets
USA chose to bat first after winning the toss in the 19th match of the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Cup Qualifier in a bid to post enough runs on the board to give their bowlers a serious chance of winning the contest
against an extremely formidable Sri Lankan side.
However, with just five runs on the board, USA lost their first wicket when opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durga-Das-c54802 walked back to the pavilion after scoring three runs.
With 18 runs on the board, they lost their second wicket when opener Nadia Gruny lost her wicket without scoring a run as she faced 46 runs. It was perhaps the innings from Nadia that put pressure on the rest of the team as being an opener she should have
at least scored instead of wasting deliveries.
Middle-order batswoman Shebani Bhaskar then tried to salvage the game by showing impressive touch with the bat against the bowling onslaught she was up against.
However, her best was not good enough as she was dismissed after scoring 18 runs. At the time of her demise, USA had posted 24 runs on the board in 17.2 overs.
USA once against exposed their vulnerability in their batting line-up as none of the remaining batswomen exhibited technique required enough to counter the Sri Lankan bowlers.
The team from the US was clearly in a spot of bother as they lacked the depth in their batting line-up to halt the Sri Lankans and scored runs at the same time.
Consequently, Sri Lankan incinerated USA by preventing them from scoring into double figures as the US fell after posting only 53 runs on the board in 49.4 overs.
With an easy total to achieve the Sri Lankans cruised their way to victory by overcoming the required tally in 18.5 overs for the loss of only two wickets.
Sri Lankan spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hettimulla-Appuhamilage-Shashikala-Dedunu-Siriwardene-c63126 was named as the Player of the Match for grabbing three wickets in the game.
