The victory has given two points to South Africa as they have now taken a lead in the tournament. On paper while both teams were equally talented South Africa always had an edge because of their phenomenal fielding and some outstanding bowlers in their arsenal.
This was certainly the best way to kickoff the tournament and the Africans couldn’t have asked for anything else.
After winning the toss, the Sri Lankans chose to field first in a bid to restrict their opposition on a meagre tally and then give their batswomen a fighting chance to take a lead in the tournament.
