Bangladesh 210 v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 128 - Bangladesh Women won by 82 runs
Bangladesh won their 5th Place Play-Off match against Ireland in the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Cup Qualifier by 82 runs at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 2 Ground, Savar on Saturday, November 26, 2011.
Bangladesh, who earned a One Day International (ODI) status after winning their previous encounter were flying high and raring to have a go at Ireland.
Ireland, on the other hand, have not been up to speed in the tournament and needed to raise their game to subdue their opponents.
Playing in front of home crowd, Bangladesh had all to play for and needed to give their fans a befitting show.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salma-Khatun-c88162 chose to bat first against a decent Irish bowling attack.
To everyone’s surprise, Bangladesh openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Suktara-c91738 Rahaman and Sharmin Supta took off to a flying start and gave their team a solid opening stand of 113 runs.
The duo took full advantage of the batting conditions of the wicket and shredded the Irish bowling attack, which looked worn-out after receiving a smashing from the resilient openers.
This was a perfect start for the home side and just what they needed to grab another win in the tournament.
However, the partnership was broken in the 30th over when Supta was run out after playing an astounding knock of 52 runs.
Ten overs later, Rahaman also fell after smashing a stupendous innings of 53 runs. At the time of her departure, Bangladesh had managed to post 145 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets.
Later, Bangladesh ended their innings after bolstering 210 runs on the board as their middle-order batting line-up failed to capitalize on the perfect start provided by their openers.
Coming out to bat, Ireland had a respectable total to chase, but needed a steady approach to reach the goal.
However, apart from inform opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Cecelia-Nora-Isobel-Mary-Joyce-c49365, none of the batswomen could stand against the rampant bowling from Bangladesh.
Joyce amassed 42 runs as she desperately tried to steer her side to victory, however, her efforts fell short and in the end Ireland crumbled after scoring 128 runs in 45.4 overs.
From Bangladesh Khatun grabbed three wickets, while http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rumana-Ahmed-c87106 bagged two wickets.
Rumana Ahmed from Bangladesh was named as the Player of the Match for her unbeaten knock of 36 runs.
