USA 78 v Bangladesh 79 - Bangladesh Women won by 9 wickets (with 187 balls remaining)
On Thursday, November 24, 2011 hosts Bangladesh beat the team from the United States of America (USA) by nine wickets in the 5th place play-off, semi-final match at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan No 2 Ground, Savar.
Bangladesh, who looked rusty throughout the tournament, gave a stupendous performance against USA, a team which doesn’t have much experience in the game of cricket.
USA on the other hand, have failed to impress anyone in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Cup Qualifier tournament and in this match one again they exposed the weaknesses in their batting line-up which needs more improvement if they want
to be taken as a serious threat in the world of cricket.
After winning the toss, USA chose to bat first in a bid to post a mammoth tally on the board and give their opponents a run for their money.
However, they had no idea that Bangladesh bowlers were up to speed and raring to have a go at them.
The hosts drew first blood on the penultimate delivery of the 4th over when USA opener Delkash Shahriarian was dismissed after scoring only four runs. At the time of her departure, US had posted only seven runs on the board.
Then on 32 runs, USA lost their second wicket when number-three batswoman Shebani Bhaskar who found her way back to the pavilion after clobbering 13 runs on the board.
With two wickets down, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usa-c759 needed a solid batting performance from some of the remaining batters; however, they lost another wicket with only 60 runs on the board.
USA’s last hopes of redemption were pulverised when opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Doris-Francis-c54511 fell after playing an innings of 23 runs. The opener exhibited good form and needed to bat till the end of the innings to help her side post a respectable total, however, after her
wicket it was a sorry tale for USA as Bangladesh incinerated the batting side without letting the remaining batswomen score in double figure.
In the end, USA posted a meagre tally of 78 runs in 47.3 overs, a total which was not easy to defend by any side.
Coming out to bat, Bangladesh reached the required target in 18.5 over for the loss of one wicket.
From Bangladesh, bowler Khadiza Tul Kubra was named as the Player of the Match for taking four wickets in the game.
