Netherland 61 v Sri Lanka 62 - Sri Lanka Women won by 7 wickets (with 214 balls remaining)
Sri Lank beat Netherlands by seven wickets in the fifth match of the ongoing International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Cup Qualifier on Tuesday, November 15 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur to take two points from the fixture.
Netherlands who came into this match with a victory against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 behind them were full of confidence and were raring to have a go at the Lankan girls.
After winning the toss, the Dutch chose to bat first, hoping to post a staggering tally on the board to subdue their opponents.
However, Sri Lanka made early inroads when on the third delivery of the over, they grabbed the wicket of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Marijn-Elise-Nijman-c74450 who took the walk of shame back to the pavilion without scoring a run.
Next to go was the star of the previous match opener http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Miranda-Veringmeier-c76358 who had her stumps uprooted after playing a meagre innings of three runs. With two wickets down for seven runs, the Dutch were in trouble as they needed to post a big total against
a formidable team like the Sri Lankans.
Sri Lanka then saw the back of Netherlands skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kaluwa-Dewage-Udeshika-Prabodhani-c70057.
At this point in time, the batting side had managed to muster only 14 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerry-Anne-Tomlinson-c71029, who was the Player of the Match in the clash against Zimbabwe also failed to give a spectacular show as she departed after amassing only 15 runs, however, even with this unimpressive innings she was the highest scorer from her side
as the remaining batswomen were incinerated by some phenomenal bowling from the Sri Lankans which resulted in Netherlands demise on 61 runs in 41.3 overs.
With a small total required to win the match, the Sri Lankans took off to a flying start as opener Chamari Atapattu and Yasoda Mendis smashed 20 and 26 runs to make the rest of the run chase a piece of cake for the rest of the squad.
The Lankans reached the required target in 14.2 overs for the loss of three wickets as they secured an emphatic win against a team which was on a high road.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Suwini-Priyanga-de-Alwis-c92076 was named as the Player of the Match for taking two wickets in nine overs by conceding only 10 runs.
After this defeat Netherlands need to regroup and bounce back as soon as possible to qualify for the World Cup.
