ICC Women Ranking Update
International Cricket Council has released the latest edition of the Women’s cricket rankings as the game continues to make an impression despite being perennially overshadowed by the men’s game.
In the latest edition the top ranked English bowling duo Katherine Brunt and Jenny Gunn have shot up the ranking for bowlers as the break in the top ten with their recent spurt of form taking them to their highest rankings.
Brunt has been in prolific form with the ball especially in the longer formats of the game, she was at her brilliant best against the New Zealanders claiming series figures series figures of 9-197, as she surged to her best ever rankings in her career.
On her way to her best ever rankings the English woman brushed aside the challenge of arch rival http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shelley-Nitschke-c89961 and Lisa Sthalekar, as the pair slumped to third and fourth place respectively.
Meanwhile Gunn’s has made rapid inroads in the rankings in recent month and her rise up the bowling rankings sees the 24-year-old from Nottingham return to the top 10 bowlers for the first time since http://www.senore.com/Cricket/March-c74391 2009.
She made it to the top ten after showing her talents in the series against the Kiwis; she was especially effective in the limited overs format of the game which included a splendid performance in the third OI where she claimed a five wicket haul.
The bowler is extremely useful to her team in the limited overs format as she has the ability to score quick runs at the lower order as she is renowned for big hits.
Her input from both bat and ball has made her rise in the rankings for all-rounders also in the ICC ODI Women’s Player Rankings for all-rounders, she now sits fifth in that table headed by Nitschke.
On the other hand most of the bowlers playing the game at the highest level have hit a purple patch and are reaping rewards of their performances.

She has made rapid strides lately which have seen her rising to eighth, and there be also joy for her team mate Sophie Devine who has catapulted eight places to break into the top 15, she is placed at the 14th position.
Outside of the top 20, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Metcalfe-c75689 has raised two places to 30th after her side’s recent internationals against England and New Zealand.
There is also representation form some of the new comers in the game, as New Zealand’s Erin Birmingham makes her first appearance in the bowling rankings at 32nd place.
On the other hand the rankings for the batters did not see a change in the pecking order with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mithali-Raj-c76407 still at the top of the rankings.
Raj is followed by Nitschke and England’s Claire http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915, while her compatriot Lydia Greenway soared six places to eighth which is her highest ranking to date.
There is another New Zealander captain Aimee Watkins who has also climbed 10 places to claim 11th position.
Her team-mate Amy Satterthwaite has put her spot on the thirteenth spot and like many others on the list this is her highest ranking to date.
