The 12-day-long Women’s T20 extravaganza in Sri Lanka saw the Australian women defending the coveted trophy they had won two years ago in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. In the final, the defending champions defeated traditional rivals England by four runs to win their second successive women’s World T20 title.
A total of eight teams, divided in two groups of four each, participated in the mega event. Group A included defending champions Australia, 2009 winners http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 formed the other half.
The tournament kick started in Galle on September 26, with hosts Sri Lankan women playing their South African counterparts in the curtain raiser, and rounded off with a thriller between Ashes rivals England and Australia at Colombo, on October 7, 2012. Group A fixtures and results:

Having opted to bat first, the Ladies in Blue could post a meagre 104 for 8 in their stipulated twenty overs, with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Meg-Lanning-c75532’s cautious 39 off 50 deliveries, well complimented by a quick 36 from Jess Cameron saw the Australian women chasing down the meagre target in 17.2 overs, at the loss of only two wickets.
Australia Women v Pakistan Women (Australia Women won by 25 runs (D/L method))
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Jodie-Maree-Fields-c67118’ women scripted their second successive win of the tournament by getting the better of their Pakistan counterparts in a rain ruined match, winning the fixture by 25 runs under Duckworth Lewis method.
Batting first, the Aussie women posted an intimidating 146 for 5 in their allotted quota of twenty overs – courtesy Jess Cameron (42) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Alyssa-Jean-Healy-c43856 (36). With the rain around, the women in green started the run chase in a slow fashion, and were 38 for 3 in nine overs before the match was stopped due to downpour, which never let up. In the end the Australian women were declared the winners as the chasing side was 25 runs short of a par score as per D/L calculations.
England Women v India Women (England Women won by 9 wickets)
The Indian women continued their unimpressive run receiving another comprehensive thrashing from their English counterparts, losing the match by nine wickets.
Batting first, Mithali Raj’s women in blue posted a mediocre 116 for 6, with Poonam Raut once again leading from the front, scoring a 57-ball 51. Skipper Raj was the other notable performer with a calculated knock of 35 runs from 38 deliveries. In reply, Edwards struck an unbeaten half century to take the side home with almost three overs and nine wickets to spare.
