Tanzania suffered their worst defeat of the ICC World Cricket League Division Four as a clinical bowling performance from Italy consigned them their massive 167-run defeat at Navile. In a match played at the Centro Sportivo Dozza on Friday, while chasing Italy’s competitive total of 259 for seven, the Tanzanians were rolled over for just 92 runs in 27 overs. Nick Northcote and Petricola then stabilized Italy with a half-century stand. A flurry of boundaries from the pair calmed the tense Italian nerves. Their partnership was worth 56 when Nick squandered his wicket needlessly. He, after, hitting the ball towards the leg side found a gap between midwicket and deep square fielder and even after taking an easy single pushed for the second as Petricola Stuttered but Nassoro’s throw was hard and flat, straight into the gloves of keeper. Nick’s dive went into vein as Kikasi had already taken the stumps off. He scored 29 runs off 59 balls plundering three muscular boundaries.
Nick’s dismissal brought Damian Crowley to the crease and in partnership with Petricola, the pair played sweetly-timed shots to drag the side towards a competitive score. Both took the score from 86 for 3 to 166 for 3. Their partnership was worth 81 when Rehmtullah broke it in the 39th over claiming Crowley’s wicket. Crowley tried to pull a big sweep of Rehmtullah’s slow delivery but could get only thin edge right into the gloves of keeper. His 52-ball 38 contained two lofty sixes. Petricola’s half century and Patrizi’s pugnacious 49 off 33 helped Italy get past 250. On the other hand, Tanzania’s run chase got off to a bad start as its whole cast, except Nassoro, floundered against Fernando and Petricola. Nassoro scored 34 runs off 39 balls but his effort was ruined by the capitulation of rest of the cast.
