ICC World Cricket League Division One: Scotland beat Kenya by 6 runs
Scotland beat Kenya in a low scoring encounter in the ICC World Cricket League Division One match at Rotterdam, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753. Batting first, Scotland scored a small total of 172 runs on a track that had plenty of swing in it. However, Kenya could not deal with the swinging conditions any better and fell shot by 6 runs in the end.
Scotland won the toss and decided to test their batsmen against the bowler friendly conditions in Rotterdam. The match started at a slow pace as Kenya used the new ball to good effect but was still not able to get an early wicket. The Scottish opening pair of Mommsen and Hairs continued to be cautious and did not take too many chances while waiting for anything wide to pounce on.
The scoring rate was just above 3.5 runs per over as the first wicket finally came in the 13th over for the Kenyan team. Hairs was caught behind off the bowling of Ngoche in a beautiful display of swing bowling. Hairs scored 27 runs from 25 balls with 6 boundaries.
Kenya did not have to wait for the next wicket for too long as the other opener Mommsen was run out while going for a needless second run. He scored 11 runs from 59 balls with two fours in his stay at the crease.
Watts was looking in good touch but the wickets kept tumbling at the other end. With the score at 64, Berrington was knocked over by Ngoche for his second wicket as the player left the crease after scoring just 2 runs from 9 balls.
Ngoche did not stop there and got his third wicket soon after as he got one through the defences of McCallum who scored just 6 runs from 15 balls.
Iqbal Watts joined and both added some good runs in the middle of the innings, the pair added 81 runs for the 5th wicket, before Watts was dismissed after scoring exactly 50 runs from 92 balls with just 2 fours. He was bowled by Odoyo.
Iqbal did not go on for much longer and was caught by Odhiambo off the bowling of Odoyo after scoring 36 runs from 71 balls with 3 boundaries.
After that there was not much to follow http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AS-Scotland-c46175 ended their innings at 172 for 8.
Kenya must have fancied their chances of chasing 173 but Scottish bowlers knew they were more familiar with the conditions and could trouble the Kenyan batsmen.
Kenya got off to a poor start with Ouma being dismissed for just one run as he was out Lbw to Parker. Obuya followed suit in the 5th over as he was caught by Iqbal off the bowling of Goudle after scoring just 1 run.
Obanda then took control of the innings and started playing a few shots, while Patel at the other end was only trying to survive.
Obanda was finally sent back after scoring 39 from 53 balls with 4 boundaries after he was caught and bowled by Berrington.
The target started looking much bigger than it actually was and the fact that Patel could only score 3 runs from 33 balls did not help the cause. Patel was finally relieved of his misery after he was caught behind off the bowling of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Berrington-c47840.
Kamande was the final hope for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kenya-c752 as he did his best to stick around. Alongside Odoyo, he put on 42 runs for the 5th wicket partnership. Odoyo was out after scoring 17 runs from 39 balls with one boundary
Kamande represented the only glimmer of hope that Kenya had. However, with the score at 106 runs, Kamande tried to go for a big shot to release the pressure and was caught in the deep by Parker off the bowling of Lyons. His vigil at the crease ended at a score of 34 runs from 64 balls with 3 boundaries.
That was pretty much the end of any hopes for Kenya but there was some fight back in the end from Okot Odhiambo down the order. He almost took the team home but was cleaned up in the second last over of the match to leave Kenya shy of 6 runs from the total. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MA-Parker-c1870 was named as the man-of-the-match.
