The hosts had to face Fiji and Japan on Tuesday, July 5, at different venues. They didn’t find any difficulties in these two matches as well, winning them comfortably by heavy margins.
The first of the two games was played between PNG and Fiji, at the Amini Park, Port Moresby. It was won by the hosts by 44 runs.
PNG batted first and collected 152 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their outing. Their openers had done a terrific job in the previous two matches, but the highest scorer against Fiji was middle-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahuru-Douglas-Dai-c73905. He collected 61 runs in his
blistering knock.
Fiji struggled throughout their innings and kept on losing wickets at regular intervals, getting all out for 108 runs in 18 overs. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Iniasi-Cakacaka-c64371 top scored the visitors’ innings with 39 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rarva-Dikana-c84041, who was the captain of PNG, had a very good luck at the toss, as he won it for the third consecutive time in the tournament. The playing conditions were yet again good for the batsmen and Dikana decided to bat first.
The home team’s openers, Asad Vala and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tony-Pala-Ura-c94235 were unable to give the same sort of start they did in the games earlier, but they still collected 43 runs for the first wicket.
Ura, who was the top scorer for his team in the opening two games, was unable to make an impression against Fiji. He was dismissed after a struggling innings of nine runs from 13 deliveries.
Vala didn’t lose his consistency though and batted well for his 40 runs off 30 balls with the help of seven boundaries. He laid a solid platform for the lower-order batsmen, who did a respectable job later in the innings.
Although most of the batsmen to follow failed to make a significant impact, they gave good support to Dai, who batted tremendously until the end of the innings. The flamboyant batsman scored 61 runs off 33 balls, clobbering four fours and the same number
of sixes. His effort guided the team’s total above 150 in the end.

However, the visitors’ batsmen were below par in their outing and didn’t pose any threat to the opposition. Cakacaka was the only batsmen to get some runs, as he top scored the innings with 38 runs, but the rest of the batting failed miserably.

Second match of the day
Japan were the next opponents of PNG in the tournament, but failed to give any competition to the hosts. The match was played at The Colts Cricket Ground, Port Moresby.
It was once again the dynamic duo of PNG, Vala and Ura, who took the game away from the opposition. They scored a superb 119-run stand for their team in the match after their skipper had won the toss and elected to bat against Japan.
Both openers scored 116 and 53 in the respective outings, guiding the team’s total to 225/3 at the end of 20 overs.
None of the visitors’ bowlers managed to make an impression and conceded plenty of runs in the match. The batsmen were also disappointing, as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Japan-c2928 were restricted to 79/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Boge-Reva-c67425 picked up three wickets for the home team, as he caused a lot of problems for the opposition.
