ICC World Cup, 2011: New Zealand’s Ross Taylor tips India as favourites
New Zealand batsman, Ross Taylor has tipped India as the favourites to win the upcoming ICC World Cup, 2011 starting on Saturday, 19 February.
“India have got to be favorites on home conditions. They are very well balanced side. Spinners are going to be the key in the tournament and they have some good spinners in Harbhajan and Ashwin and the part-time spin bowlers also very good at their job,”
the Kiwi cricketer said.
Taylor was appointed as the stand-in skipper, in the absence of Daniel Vettori, for the warm-up match against India on 16 February, 2011. He praised India’s performance with the bat and said that the Kiwis struggled to chase the mammoth target of 361.
“Sometime we go well. On Wednesday we gave too many runs on this wicket. We were playing second innings for first time in the two warm-up matches. We had a good start by both Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill but we need to get more for a good start. We
need to do that quite often to get big totals,” he said.
He admitted that the Black Caps have been struggling to chase massive totals and would have to improve their batting performance during the mega event.
“We need to bat, bowl and field well. At the moment we are not doing all the facets as we would like. I still have the confidence in the team and we can get the performances we want,” Taylor said with optimism.
