ICC World Cup, 2011: Virender Sehwag eyeing 50-over stay
Explosive batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 can relinquish any bowling attack on his day. Even a short stint, of 10 to 15 overs, from this aggressive batsman is enough for his side to mount a challenging total.
But in the ICC World Cup, 2011 he is planning to stay focused and bat through the entire quota of 50 overs, something he has not yet achieved. If he is able to do what he aims for, he will become a force to reckon with.
Viru expressed, “I think I have never played 50 overs in one-day cricket. The maximum I have played is 43 or 44 overs. But this time I will try to bat 50 overs and give a good start to the team. I have been unsuccessfully trying this
for the last 10 years and the effort is still on and will be there.”
The 32-year-old wants to match Sachin Tendulkar’s feat of scoring 200 in a One Day International match. For that to happen, he must learn to prolong his innings. The Little Master has batted an entire innings several times; in 2010
Tendulkar scored the first and only double-century in an ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, batting for full 50-overs.
The ICC World Cup, 2011 is being played in the Subcontinent, jointly hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 and India. A lot of expectations are being hyped on the Nawab of Najafgarh since he’ll be playing on home soil; but Viru is pretty
relaxed as he has full support of captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527.
Both the captain and coach want him to enjoy his game and play his natural style because that’s when he is most lethal.
The 32-year old said, “I think nobody is telling me what to do, that's the good part of our team. The coach and captain just allow me to bat the way I bat. So, they are not putting any pressure on me.”
Sehwag said that his role is to give his side a solid start even if that requires him to go out there and start smashing bowlers from the get go.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virat-Kohli-c95424, Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Yusuf Pathan in the middle order. With such an impressive middle order,
Viru gets the license to go after the bowlers from the start.
Since the advent of Twenty20 cricket average scores in one-dayers have increased dramatically. The right-handed batsman thinks that in the upcoming mega event, teams batting first must score big, and aim for a total of 300 and above.
The 32-year old is making a come-back after being side-lined for more than five months due to injuries.
