ICC World Cup 2011: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ajmal-Shahzad-c42489 hopeful of a World Cup berth
England fast bowler Ajmal Shahzad has set his eyes on a World Cup spot after he featured in both the Twenty20s and the first One Day International against Australia.
After being given an opportunity in the limited over formats, Shahzad was confident of making it to the final-15 for the World Cup. He was not part of the playing 11 when England defeated Australia in the 2010-11 Ashes.
Shahzad also represented the England’s under-19 team and he made his debut in the Test team back in 2010 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. The start to his career was not bad as he took four wickets in the match.
Although England lost the first ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, Shahzad had a relatively good day compared to the other fast bowlers. He took one wicket and did not give away too many runs in his spell of bowling.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 pacer stated, “I'm a genuine wicket taker and at the death I can do them a job so fingers crossed. I just play every game as if it is my last. I just want to give the best performance I can on that day.”
He admitted that there is a lot of competition amongst his teammates to earn a World Cup spot. He said, “With me being a new boy in the team I'm going to get limited opportunities so I need to impress and show the selectors and coaches what I've got to offer.”
England still has to play a number of matches before the World Cup. The team will be facing the Kangaroos for six more ODIs and then they will go head-to-head against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 in their warm-up game on 16 February, 2011.
Hoping to represent his team for the mega event, Shahzad stated, “Hopefully they will see something in there that they like and that they think they can use in the sub-continent and the World Cup.”
England will play their opening World Cup match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 on 22 February, 2011.
