ICC World Cup 2011: Andrew Strauss sends warning to other teams
England captain Andrew Strauss has warned other teams participating in the ICC World Cup 2011 not to take his team lightly during the mega cricketing event.
He admitted that his team did not play up to the mark in the previous edition of the tournament in the West Indies but also claimed that England have learnt from their mistakes and are going to lift the most illustrious trophy of the cricket world this time
around.
Strauss said, “The whole campaign in the 2007 World Cup was a poor one. We didn't start well; we never got going and played a very conservative brand of cricket. I hope we've learned lessons from it and won't repeat the mistakes.”
England have a rich history but have never been crowned as the world champions in the 50-over format of the game. They have reached the world cup finals three times but lost all of them. However, they won their first-ever International Cricket Council event
in 2010 as they lifted the ICC World Twenty20 championship by beating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760.
Under Strauss’ captaincy, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 had a successful 2010-11 Ashes campaign and defeated the Aussies 3-1. However, the Australians fought back in the One Day International series and thrashed the visitors 6-1. England have never been a great limited-over team
and that was evident once again in their tour down under.
Strauss admitted that his team has failed to make an impression in the limited-over cricket recently but he believes that he has a strong bunch of players who have the ability to surprise the opposing teams in the mega event.
“We didn't play good one-day cricket just recently. But we've got a solid squad, a very settled side and we really feel we can do really well in this tournament,” the English captain added.
Although England have lost Eoin Morgan because of an injury but the likes of Kevin Pietersen, Ian Bell and Paul Collingwood are match winners in their own right and can change the complexion of a match in no time on their day.
