ICC World Cup 2011: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brett-Lee-c48419 backs Australian pace attack
Australia’s pace bowler Brett Lee has backed the pace battery of his squad and believes that the Aussie pacers will do the job for their country in the ICC World Cup 2011 that gets underway on 19 February.
Lee said, “I don't see any problem with the pace which we have and playing on the slow wickets – at the end of the day the ball is still coming at 150 kmh (93 miles an hour) through the air.”
The Aussie pacer reiterated that the Australian fast bowlers have always had a good record on the dry pitches of the Subcontinent and 2011 will be no different.
The Australians won the 1987 World Cup and 2006 Champions Trophy in the region playing on the slow, spinner-friendly wickets. They were also the runner-ups in the 1996 World Cup when it was played at the same venue.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746’s record of doing well in important tournaments on slow wickets reflects the ability of their fast bowlers to deliver even when the conditions do not particularly suit them.
Lee will be spearheading Australia’s pace attack along with Shaun Tait, Mitchell Johnson and Doug Bollinger. The veteran pacer praised Tait and said that he had the talent and speed to rattle any batting line-up in the world.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lee-c72382 missed the ICC World Cup 2007 because of an elbow injury. However, he is completely fit now and is raring to have a go at the top teams of the world.
He made an impressive comeback in international cricket after an absence of 15 months in the seven-match One Day International series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 which Australia won by 6-1.
Fellow pacer Mitchell Johnson praised Lee and Tait and said that watching them bowl together would be a treat for the fans during the World Cup.
“I enjoy the fact Brett Lee and Shaun Tait get to run in with that new ball and do their job. Shaun bowls very fast and likes to bowl that short ball and I think that [approach] could work over here, so I think we're in a pretty good position with our bowling
attack,” Johnson said.
