ICC World Cup 2011: CSA welcomes ‘Cricket Fridays’
Cricket South Africa gave its backing to the ‘Cricket Fridays’ campaign to support their national team in ICC World Cup 2011.
CSA has thrown its weight behind the latest Lead SA initiative, Cricket Friday in order to encourage cricket enthusiasts to support Proteas in the mega event that is scheduled to begin from 19 February 2011 in the sub-continent.
The campaign will be kicking off from the five-match One Day International series between South Africa and India that is scheduled to begin from 12 January 2011 in Kingsmead, Durban.
Cricket Friday will be reminiscent to the huge campaign to support the football national team in 2010 FIFA World Cup that was hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757. The South African used to wear the official yellow football jerseys to support ‘Bafana Bafana’ and blew
vuvuzelas to support their team. The trend was slowly picked up by every South African even by the professionals who used to wear the casual jersey every Friday instead of the usual formal dressing.
A similar campaign is being constructed by Lead SA that is the country’s leading media group.
“We have decided to get fully behind the Proteas and mobilize the public because we believe our cricketers need the support ahead and during the Cricket World Cup,” Yusuf Abramjee, the Group Head of News and Current Affairs at PRIMEDIA stated.
He also announced that the fifth day of every week will be purely dedicated to the Proteas and they will be encouraging the readers and listeners to wear cricket shirts every Friday.
Gerald Majola, CSA’s Chief Executive welcomed Lead SA’s initiative and also urged the public to show their 100 per cent support for the Proteas at the upcoming match between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and South Africa.
“CSA supports any initiative that is 100% behind the Proteas,” Majola stated.
He also hailed Lead SA’s achievements saying they always get behind all the national sports of the country.
The “Pure Protea Fridays” campaign will begin from the second week of January 2011 as the Proteas clash with India in their second ODI on Saturday, 15 January.
The ODI series will be especially crucial for South African players as it will most likely determine their final 15-man squad for the World Cup.
