ICC World Cup 2011: Canada cricketers get Indian visa
Cricket Canada must have breathed a huge sigh of relief after receiving Indian visas for their three Pakistan-born players who are a part of their final 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup 2011 starting from 19 February.
With less than three weeks to go before the mega event kicks off, three of Canada’s key players including Vice-captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khurram-Chohan-c1791 and stand-by wicketkeeper Hamza Tariq were still awaiting permission from
the Indian authorities for the travel visa.
Recently, Cricket Canada had urged the International Cricket Council to work out the visa issues and would now be happy to get clearance for three of their key players.
Cricket Canada president Ranjit Saini had earlier said that the delay in visa issuance had hampered Canada's preparations for the World Cup as the three players could not attend a practice tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in November 2010.
“We couldn't take these players to India and as a result our training plans have suffered,” Saini told the media. “[It was] a source of distraction.”
With everything sorted out, Canada will now take a full squad to the Subcontinent to play their official warm-up matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 and England on 12 and 16 February respectively.
Canada have been placed in Group A which also includes defending champions Australia. Other five teams are Pakistan, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Kenya and Zimbabwe.
Canada will kick-start their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka in Hambantota on 20 February before they head to India to take on Zimbabwe at http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Vidarbha-c860 Cricket Association Stadium on 28 February.
