ICC World Cup 2011: Eden Gardens stripped of hosting India v England fixture
Eden Gardens will not be the host of the game between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and England for the ICC World Cup 2011 as the venue is still behind its completion schedule.
The match between India and England was scheduled to be played on 27 February.
There were many claims made by the Indian officials that the stadium will be ready before the deadline to host all the assigned matches of the mega event but the International Cricket Council inspection committee reported that the stadium still needed some time to be prepared.
The ICC Chief http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 stated, “Regrettably, Eden Gardens has not made sufficient progress to justify the level of confidence required to confirm that the venue would be ready in good time.”
He further added, “This was no easy decision to take and while it is most unfortunate, it is absolutely necessary.”
This will be terrible news for the cricket lovers in India as Eden Gardens was considered as one of the best stadiums of the country.
On the other hand, the organisers in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 have been working hard to prepare the grounds on time for the mega event. Organisers from both countries have said that there will be no delays in the preparations and the matches will be held as per the ICC schedule.
However, this is not the first time that the Indian organisers have struggled to host international events. There were a lot of issues before the start of the 2010 Commonwealth Games as the players and officials from different countries were not given suitable facilities in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 sports village.
Although the organisers claimed the Commonwealth Games as a success, the event was marred by corruption allegations and mismanagement.
India will also be hosting its first-ever Formula 1 race later in 2011. The organisers will be hoping that the track is prepared in time and there are no controversies surrounding the race.
The ICC’s inspection team will be visiting the other stadiums as well in all three World Cup hosting nations and the fate of the matches will be decided after the final report is submitted by the inspection team.
