ICC World Cup 2011: Haroon Lorgat confident about event preparations
The International Cricket Council is confident that India will be ready in time to host the matches of the ICC World Cup scheduled to start from 19
February, 2011 in the subcontinent.
There have been many speculations that India was way behind the schedule and at-least five venues which will be hosting the World Cup matches will not be handed over to the ICC within the deadline provided by the sport’s governing body.
ICC chief http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and some were behind completion schedule but he was confident that the organisers will be able to complete the work on time.
He stated, “Five stadiums are still to be completed but there are no alarm bells ringing and I'm sure they will be ready well before the World Cup.”
There are reports that even the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 stadium, which is scheduled to host the final apart from the group matches, was still under construction and the progress of the work was very slow.
Few of the Indian organisers claimed that there were no delays and everything was on schedule, however, some constructors at the venues said that they did not get sufficient time for completion of the construction work.
This is not the first time that the Indian organisers are under the scanner for hosting a mega event. In 2010, there was a lot of mismanagement during the 19th Commonwealth Games in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 and many players and officials from various countries were
not happy with the arrangements.
The ICC World Cup 2011 will be co-hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 and both the nations have claimed that all work is on schedule and the stadiums will be handed over to the ICC within the given time.
There were also some security concerns for the tournament but Lorgat was confident that there will be no security lapse during the mega event.
