ICC World Cup 2011- Hosts Bangladesh defeat Ireland by 27 runs
Bangladesh has beaten Ireland by 27 runs in an important fixture of group ‘B’ of the ICC Cricket World Cup, 2011 at the Sher e Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
Both the teams have set their eyes on qualifying for the quarter-finals of the event and Bangladesh have taken a positive step towards the second round of the tournament. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 and Bangladesh are considered to be the best teams amongst the minnows in international
cricket as both of them qualified for the Super Eights in the previous edition of the tournament after beating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 respectively.
Bangladesh captain Shakib Al http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 made one change
to their lineup as they brought in the former Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful in place of Mahmudulluh.
Bangladeshi batting remains a concern as majority of the batsmen are able to start well but no one seems to take the responsibility on his shoulders. Same was the case against India and the batsmen repeated the show against Ireland as well. Tamim Iqbal proved
once again that he is a dangerous prospect at the start of the innings as he made a brisk 44, but the middle order batsmen could not capitalise on the start they got.
Spin has always been the strength of Bangladeshi cricket but the biggest positive in the match was the performance of the fast bowler Shafiul Islam who won the match for his country at the later stages with four crucial wickets. It was quite surprising that
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Tamim-Iqbal-c2640 was named as the Player of the Match even though Shafiul made a huge impact on the outcome of the match.
Irish coach Phil Simmons would be very happy with the way his bowlers and fielders performed in the first innings, however the batsmen disappointed him as the match was there for the taking after the home team was dismissed for a cheap score.
Apart from the O’Brien brothers, none of the Ireland batsmen were able to cope with the conditions which were suitable for the slow bowlers. Ireland faced the same dilemma as the Bangladeshi batsmen with the majority of the batsmen taking promising starts
but failing to carry on the momentum.
Considering the fact that the Irish team was playing on alien conditions, which were heavily in favor of the home team, it was not a bad effort and they can take heart from their performance for the matches to come in group ‘B’.
Bangladesh has secured a win in their second match of the World Cup but they would have to raise their game with the bat if they are to qualify for the quarter-finals. Such kind of a batting performance is not going to work against the tougher oppositions
like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bengal-c771 Tigers to roar in this tournament especially after the sort of performances they have shown in the past six months.
