ICC World Cup 2011: Ian Chappell welcomes decision to investigate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746-Zimbabwe match
The former Australian Test skipper, Ian Chappell, defended International Cricket Council (ICC) for carrying investigations against Australian duo, Shane http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045,
in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011.
The former Aussie player thinks that the ICC is not doing enough to eliminate spot-fixing from the game. During his visit to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 for the ongoing World Cup, Chappell said that if the ICC is inspecting the Australian team, then that means they would also
analyse other factors regarding spot-fixing.
He added that it is great if they are making suitable measures to omit spot-fixing but they need to investigate further to know more about the menace prevailing in the game.
He also added, “But in this instance I don't think there was anything untoward going on at all”.
Chappell also criticized the Indian media for creating rumours about the Australian players, like Ricky Ponting smashing a television in the dressing room when he was ran out by a direct throw from Chris Mpofu of Zimbabwe.
He stated, “There are those people in the media who think they can make a difference. Some of them have a warped sense of importance in that they think that if they can unsettle the Australians then that might help India do better at the World Cup”.
Former cricketer also commented about the replacement of Doug Bollinger, who was ruled out of the squad after facing a serious injury. He said that a player like Michael Hussey would be the best option to play in the World Cup in place of Bollinger.
He said that Hussey has recovered from his hamstring injury and has started playing domestic cricket. He is now completely fit and ready to play in the ongoing mega event. He suggested the ICC selectors give Hussey a chance to prove himself, as he would
not let them down.
Chappell is of the view that, “Australia are going to make the quarter-finals, so if you are going to bring someone over, you want to bring someone who is going to make a difference in important games”.
He also added that the crucial match of Australia against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 will decide their fate and would have a big impact on their position in the finals of the tournament.
Chappell went on to say that if the Aussies try to maintain their form in Group A, then their matches against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 would not be difficult matches for them to reach the semi-finals.
