Sources said that McCullum’s condition has improved, but he will remain under observation. Moreover, the off-spinner is expected to be discharged from the hospital on 19 February, 2011, before his World Cup match on Sunday.
However, his selection for the match would be decided when the doctor would declare him fit.
New Zealand cricket fans would be hoping that his ailment is not severe as this could hurt the Black Caps preparation for the ICC World Cup 2011 which is going to be officially kicked off in the Subcontinent.
The New Zealand cricket team is also worried about the player who turned out to be a very useful all-rounder for the Kiwis as his batting and bowling compliment his skills quite beautifully.
The team has already been struggling at the international level for six months. Therefore, the Kiwis cannot afford to miss McCullum for the World Cup.
McCullum took part in both the warm-up matches and he has become an integral part of the Kiwis limited overs setup.
He is a very handy batsman in the depth overs because of his hard hitting abilities, which he showed against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 too in the recently concluded One Day International series, though the Kiwis lost the tournament 2-3.
Nathan has taken 12 wickets in his 19 ODIs. Even in the recent series against Pakistan, New Zealander performed well in both the batting and bowling departments. Moreover, the player’s another important quality is that he is a fantastic fielder, being an
asset for the captain.
He is the elder brother of Brendon McCullum, who is a New Zealand international cricketer. He is a wicket-keeper, as well as an aggressive batsman.
However Nathan is only considered as a limited overs specialist and is yet to make his Test debut. He might not have the best averages with both bat and ball, but he is very effective in all the departments of the game.
