ICC World Cup 2011: Peter Kirsten fancies India’s chances under http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gary-Kirsten-c58527
Peter Kirsten, the elder half-bother of the Indian national team coach Gary Kirsten, has acknowledged the fact that the India have a very good chance of lifting the ICC World Cup 2011 set to begin in the sub-continent from February.
Peter, while talking to Indian media, insisted that his brother, a former South African international cricketer, had done a great job with the team as a coach and helped http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 transform into an outfit second to none.
Speaking about how pivotal his brother has been for the Indian team he said, “Gary has done a great job there. I’m surprised by their fighting spirit. If it was not for Jacques Kallis, India would have won the Test series. He has worked hard with players
like Sachin, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rahul-c83321, Gambhir. Sehwag did not get runs but I’m sure he will do well in home conditions. I just feel, the Indian fighting spirit, is very evident and I’m not surprised that they are the No 1.”
Peter, who himself was a right-handed opener for South Africa, represented his country from 1991 to 1994, which included 12 Tests and 40 One Day Internationals.
The former South African batsman, while giving an interview to Indian media, expressed his utter shock at the exclusion of pace bowler http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shanthakumaran-Sreesanth-c89725 and Rohit Sharma. According to Kirsten, Sreesanth had a very positive influence on the Indian
team which toured http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 recently and should have been a part of the World Cup squad.
Kirsten insisted that perhaps his brother Gary didn’t have much say in the selection of the team because it seems like as if the selectors want to depend on their spinners instead of pacers in February’s World Cup, because of the support spin bowlers get
from sub-continent wickets.
Kirsten, however, said that India had announced a mighty squad for the World Cup and veterans like Sachin Tendulkar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virender-Sehwag-c95429 would be vital for their team. “Obviously, Sachin Tendulkar is the vital cog in the batting along with Sehwag and Suresh
Raina. They have got reasons to pick the squad they have,” he said.
The South African was not upbeat about the chances of his national team in the upcoming World Cup and suggested that the team was not playing at its best.
He said, “South Africa got a bit of problem with their selection issues. They must select seven coloured players out of 15. Their tail will be too long. They have a problem with the batting down the order.”
He favoured England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 to be the top teams in the sub-continental cricket extravaganza and believed that these teams would definitely put a befitting show while playing cricket’s most prized tournament.
