ICC World Cup 2011: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Praveen-Kumar-c82600 ruled out due to elbow injury
Indian medium-pace bowler Praveen Kumar will not participate in the ICC World Cup 2011 after failing to recover from an elbow injury.
Kumar suffered the injury during a practice session before the start of the One-day series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 recently. He was sent back home to recover in time for the World Cup, but has failed to do so.
The tenth cricket World Cup begins 19 February, 2011 with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 playing the opening fixture at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium, Dhaka.
Many cricket pundits are rating India as the hot favourite for the event, however, India’s preparations have been heavily jolted because of injuries to Sachin Tendulkar, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gautam-Gambhir-c58623 and Praveen Kumar. All of them are considered as the
mainstay of India’s One-day line-up. Apart from Kumar, rest of the injured players are expected to gain full fitness before the start of the mega event.
The 24-year-old all-rounder from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Uttar-Pradesh-c858 had expressed hope recently that he will recover within time to represent his country in the event, but his injury has ruled him out of cricket’s flagship event.
Kumar made his international debut against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 in 2008 and since then he has been a permanent member of the Indian team in the limited-over format of the game. He has always been considered as a One-day and Twenty20 specialist but has never been given
an opportunity to prove his worth in the longest version of the game, mainly due to the lack of pace in his bowling.
Apart from his bowling, Praveen Kumar can use the long handle to good effect while batting and has proved that on numerous occasions in both international and domestic cricket.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shanthakumaran-Sreesanth-c89725 is the most likely candidate to take Kumar’s place in India’s 15-man World Cup squad. Sreesanth was part of the Indian team in the One-day series against the Proteas but was not given an opportunity in any of the five matches, despite
his Test series’ heroics.
