ICC World Cup 2011: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Rashid-Latif-c84084 slams PCB over delay in naming captain
There have been many controversies surrounding the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board and the Board does not seem to be willing to get out of the crisis any time soon.
The announcement of the World Cup squad sans captain has raised many questions over the PCB’s management yet again.
Many former cricketers and experts have criticised the move by the PCB and suggested that the team will be divided in two groups if the captaincy issue is not resolved soon. The latest critic of the PCB is Rashid Latif who slammed the decision of the Board.
According to Rashid, former captain of Pakistan, the Board should have named http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 was a defensive captain and the team needs an aggressive captain for the mega event.
Rashid said, “By holding up the name of the captain for the World Cup, PCB has already created rift in the team. Personally I have nothing against Misbah but he is not fit to lead Pakistan in the mega event like World Cup.”
The former captain stated that Pakistan could have easily won the second Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Wellington-c864 but the defensive approach of Misbah led the team to a draw.
Although Pakistan went onto win the Test series 1-0, Rashid said that a 2-0 win was easily possible. He said that teams easily score more than 300 in the 90 overs bowled in a day and Misbah did not even try once to go for a win.
Former players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Inzamam-ul-Haq-c64383 and Waqar Younis have also criticised the move by the PCB after there was no captain named for the mega event.
Many experts are favouring Afridi for captaincy while some others are in favour of Misbah.
Earlier, the PCB did not name the captain for the One Day International series against New Zealand and faced severe criticism for the move. However, Afridi was later named as the leader of the squad.
Afridi has not had the best of times as the leader of the Pakistan team. The veteran all-rounder has lost seven series during his reign as captain and managed to win only two Twenty20 series.
The never-ending dilemma for the PCB seems to be created by the Board itself. However, if the Board names a different captain at this stage, just a few days before the ICC World Cup 2011, it may lead to further disaster.
