ICC World Cup 2011: Stuart Broad geared up for challenge
England fast bowler Stuart Broad claimed on Thursday that he is fresh and looking forward to add some power to the bowling brigade of his team as they gear up for their first World Cup title.
“I feel very fresh,” said Broad while talking to a leading sports website. “Having not played for a long time it was all training-based, so I felt fit and excited to be back on the park and can bring some energy to the unit.”
The 24-year-old pacer missed a major part of their successful 2010-11 Ashes campaign and the One Day International series drubbing against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746. He had suffered an abdominal injury during the second Ashes Test at the Adelaide
Oval which England won by an innings and 71 runs that kept him out of action.
Broad admitted that he was quite nervous before the start of the practice match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Canada-c748 as he was going to bowl after a long gap, but highlighted he felt great to be back on the cricket pitch.
The injury kept him away from international cricket for more than two months before he made a stunning comeback in the World Cup warm-up game against Canada picking up 5 for 37 as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 survived a huge scare at the hands of the minnows.
England, the World Cup hot favourites besides co-hosts http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, looked out of touch in their first preparatory match but the right-arm medium-pacer reckons there were some positives as well to take from the narrow win, particularly the
performances of Matt Prior and Jonathan Trott.
“We weren't overly happy with the performance but there are positives we can take out of the game,” said the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826 bowler.
He also conceded to pulling up a little stiff, but was hopeful of returning to full form when England officially kick off their World Cup campaign against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753 on 22 February, 2011.
